Mauricio Garcia Biography
The gunman who killed at least eight people and wounded half a dozen more at a Dallas-area shopping center was identified Sunday as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, two senior law enforcement officials told NBC News.
The gunman was killed after deadly violence erupted Saturday by a police officer who was at the Allen Premium Outlets, about 25 miles north of Dallas, police said.
Garcia had on a tactical vest and was armed with a rifle of some kind, as well as a pistol, one of the senior law enforcement officials said.
More weapons and ammunition were found in his car, the source said.

It was the second deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year and the second in Texas in just over a week.
The policeman confronted the shooter and killed him.
Six were confirmed dead by officers at the scene, and two more died en route to or after reaching local hospitals.
As of this writing, a total of nine were killed, including Garcia, according to an Allen Police Department post on Facebook.
At least seven others were injured, and Spainhour said he was able to help a child who had been protected by his mother, one of those who died of her injuries.
“When I turned the mother over, he came out,” the lifeguard recalled.
“I asked him if he was okay and he told me: ‘My mom is hurt, my mom is hurt.'”
“So instead of traumatizing him, I pulled him around the corner, sat him down, and he was covered from head to toe… like someone spilled blood on him,” he added.
Spainhour said the ordeal will affect him well into the future.
“Nobody can see what we saw today and not be affected by it,” he said.
“It’s not a situation I would wish on anyone, it’s just unfathomable to see carnage.”
Politicians across Texas have also spoken out about the shooting.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Allen, Texas, tonight during this unspeakable tragedy,” Abbott said in a statement Saturday night.
