Who was Saoirse Corrigan ?
A young couple were among three people who died in a car accident in the Republic of Ireland on New Year’s Eve.
Saoirse Corrigan and her partner Shane Gilchrist, both 20, were killed in a two-car collision in Kells, County Meath.

Saoirse and Shane, who were the only occupants of one of the cars, were killed.
A woman in her 20s, who was driving the second car, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the head-on collision, but was later pronounced dead.

Three children in the second car, two girls and a 12-year-old boy, were also taken to the hospital.
The boy is said to be in critical condition, while the girls have no life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since been reopened.
The Irish Sun reported that Saoirse had just started a new job as a teacher.
Family
Her family recounted their agony at losing her in a death notice published today.
“Death occurred, on Friday, December 31, of Saoirse Corrigan, Whitehall, Castlepollard, tragically, after an accident,” she said.
‘Pre-deceased by her grandfather Michael hers. Deeply mourned for their loving mother Orlene, loving father Michael, Andy, Keri, brothers Cathal and Cillian, sisters Brónagh and Gráinne, grandparents Michael-John, Josephine and Beatrice, uncles, aunts, extended family, all staff and students from St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff and a wide circle of friends.
“May Saoirse’s gentle soul rest in peace.”
Gardaí is appealing to witnesses, in particular road users who were traveling through the area at the time.
TD Thomas Byrne of Meath East has expressed his condolences to the families of the three people who died.

Gardai launched an information appeal with witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area who were asked to come forward.
A garda spokesperson said: ‘Kells Gardaí is investigating a fatal 2-car traffic collision on the N52, Lloyds, Kells, Co. Meath, which occurred on 12/31/2021 shortly after 4pm.
‘Anyone traveling in the area or having any information or images from the dash cam is requested to contact Gardaí in Kells on 046 9280820.
‘3 people (2 women and 1 man, all in their 20s, died), 3 children were taken to hospital for treatment. Gardaí has completed a forensic examination of the scene, investigations are ongoing. ‘
