The injured older brother of the Sacramento shooting suspect has also now been arrested in connection with the wave of violence that killed six people Sunday night.

Smiley Martin, 27, was taken into custody Tuesday morning while recovering at the hospital where he has been since the incident.

He is charged with possession of a machine gun.

He is the older brother of Dandrae Martin, 26, who was arrested yesterday.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Smiley posted a Facebook Live video moments before the shooting of him posing with his sawed-off shotgun. The video has now been removed.

The pair are not believed to have been the only ones involved in the violence, but police have yet to arrest anyone else.

Police confirmed to the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday that a stolen weapon was used in the shooting and that it had been converted to be used as an automatic weapon, which can fire like a machine gun.

Photos from revealed how the destruction spanned two city blocks, with markers indicating more than 250 shots were fired. Police have estimated that at least 100 rounds were fired.

Police also obtained a social media post by Smiley Martin showing him holding the stolen gun the day before the shooting, the LA Times reported.

On Sunday, shots were heard on the cross section of 10th Street and K Street in Sacramento as bars and nightclubs came out. Witnesses reported a massive fight involving several men.

They told police they saw men shooting from vehicles and fleeing on foot with guns in their hands.

Six innocent people were killed; homeless woman Melinda Davis, 57, Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 31, Johntaya Alexander, 21, Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21, and cousins Sergio Harris, 38, and Devazia Turner, 29.

Turner’s mother, Penelope Scott, told The Associated Press yesterday: “My son was walking down the street and someone started shooting, and they shot him.” Why will that happen? I feel like I have a hole in my heart.

It’s unclear if any of them had any connection to the fight, or if they were caught in the crossfire.

Arrested and Charged

Martin is the older brother of 26-year-old Dandrae Martin, whom police arrested Monday and named a “related suspect” in the incident. Young Martin is charged with assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, in a statement Monday announcing Dandrae Martin’s weapons charges, noted that he was not arrested for any homicide in the April 3 shooting.

Detectives have executed warrants at at least three residences as they search for a motive for the shooting, which is believed to involve “multiple” gunmen. Investigators recovered more than 100 spent shell casings at the scene, along with a stolen pistol that police said had been “converted into a weapon capable of automatic fire.”

The investigation is highly complex involving many witnesses, videos of numerous types and significant physical evidence. This is an ongoing investigation and we anticipate more arrests in this case,’ she said.

Investigators are working to unravel what happened at the chaotic scene where gunfire erupted shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday in a stretch of downtown Sacramento known for bars and clubs, just a block from the state Capitol.

Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said Sunday that police arrived at the scene to the sound of gunfire and found a “large crowd” and multiple gunshot victims. The crime scene, Lester said, was “very complex and complicated.”

Lester said a “big fight” preceded the shooting. A video posted on social media shows a fight taking place on a sidewalk as the shooting breaks out, though Sgt. Zach Eaton, a police spokesman, told The Washington Post on Sunday that “we can’t confirm if that fight was what caused the shooting, or if two things were happening at once.”
